NGO: Advenchores (Thailand) & Big Brother Mouse (Laos)

This is the unique story of a novice monk, his mountain home and his vision to bring creative literacy uphill. The project is peculiar because of its (unheard of) location in the high altitude village of Ban Kuanlith in Kuan District, Phongsaly, Laos.

What ended up as an adventurous art and literacy project in the high hills of northern Laos began as the monk’s dream in the country’s capital. 17 year-old Novice Somchit Tantahbud was born in Ban Kuanlith to a Khmu family. His vision was to improve literacy and art in his village by bringing back some books for the schools.

1,000 books, a rainbow of water colour paints, canvases, brushes and other art supplies were facilitated to the schools in addition with a series of workshops.

The story featured in the Vientiane Times the 11th of January of 2014.

NGO: Taman Bacaan Pelangi

Taman Bacaan Pelangi (Rainbow Reading Gardens) is a non-profit organisation focuses on establishing children’s libraries in remote areas of eastern Indonesia. They encourage children to dream big. And books will inspire, broaden their horizon and motivate them to reach their dream.

We were taken by Monica Harahap, the beating heart of the Indonesian NGO, to Pulau Papagarang, a neighbouring island perched in the middle of the Komodo National Park. We spent 3 magical days with the children of the island, learning what life for locals is this part of Indonesia is all about. Long live Papagarang!

Sculpture / Interactive Art

The Worryball is an interactive artwork using more than 6000 Guatemalan worrydolls, woven in the a large sphere. Inside the ball there is an omni speaker, broadcasting recordings of different people’s worries. An online version of the sculpture lets people record their worries straight from a website into the ball itself.

Digital / Interactive Art

The Human Touch Project is an online artwork that want to celebrate the beauty of human diversity by connecting a series of unique moments from all around the world through a simple touch. The more people participate in the project and share a snippet of their lives, the more interesting is the experience, highlighting the beauty of an interconnected world.
The website displays a series of randomised short video clips, with  each participant starting and ending the video by placing their finger on the camera lens. The achieved effect is that each participant appears to "pass on" their touch to the next randomly chosen participant.
